1. What happens if there is damage during transport?
In the unlikely event of damage during transit, the process is:
At delivery, you inspect the vehicle with the driver and note any damage on the bill of lading/sign-off sheet.
If damage exists, take detailed photos, don’t accept the vehicle without noting it, contact us immediately.
We’ll initiate a claim process per the carrier’s insurance policy and work with you to resolve.
Being onsite and documenting condition at delivery is key to a smooth claims process.- Transportation charges are earned upon dispatch and are due in full regardless of whether a damage claim is filed or the outcome of any claim. Insurance coverage does not offset, suspend, or replace the customer’s obligation to pay transportation charges.
2. How do I book vehicle shipping with BCAT Logistics?
You can get started by filling out our free quote form on our “Ship Your Vehicle” page or by calling us at 224-414-2700 (or 224-414-2700) to speak with a specialist. Once we confirm your rate, pickup/delivery windows and vehicle details, we’ll assign you a carrier and handle the paperwork.
3. What types of vehicles can you ship?
We ship all kinds of vehicles, including standard sedans, SUVs, trucks, vans, motorcycles, commercial vehicles, non-running vehicles, and specialty/collectible cars. Whether it runs or not, we can handle it.
4. What service options do I have (open vs enclosed, door-to-door vs terminal)?
We offer:
Open trailer transport — cost-efficient and common for everyday vehicles.
Enclosed trailer service — ideal for high-value, vintage or exotic vehicles needing extra protection.
Door-to-door pickup and delivery — we pick up at your specified address and deliver similarly (when accessible).
Terminal-to-terminal — if cost or access is a factor, this may be possible.
Choosing the best option depends on your vehicle value, schedule, and budget.
5. How much does vehicle shipping cost?
Pricing varies by several factors: pickup & delivery locations (distance), size/weight of vehicle, type of service (open vs enclosed), time of year/season demand, and whether the vehicle is operable.
For a more accurate rate, submit your route, vehicle specs and desired pickup window.
(BTW: In the freight side of our business we also emphasise transparent rates with no surprise accessorials.)
6. How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking as soon as you know your vehicle needs shipment. For popular routes or during high-demand seasons (moving season, snowbird relocation, college drop-off/pick-up), earlier is better. Some carriers may fill up. Many providers suggest 2 days to 2 weeks ahead for standard routes.
7. How long does vehicle shipping take?
Transit time depends on route distance, carrier availability, weather or DOT/HOS disruptions.
For example:
Short regional moves: 1-3 days
Moderate distances: 3-7 days
Cross-country: 5-10 days (or more depending on specific start & end points)
Your quote will include a pickup window and expected delivery window; we keep you updated.
8. Is my vehicle insured during transport?
Yes — we only work with carriers that maintain proper insurance and comply with regulations. You’ll receive documentation showing the carrier’s insurance coverage. Before your shipment, we’ll provide details so you know exactly what is covered under the contract.
9. Do I need to be present at pickup and/or delivery?
It is strongly advised that someone (you or a designated representative) be present at pickup and delivery. At pickup you’ll inspect the vehicle with the driver, note any existing damage, sign the bill of lading. At delivery you do the same. This protects you and ensures the condition is documented. If you can’t be there, appoint someone trustworthy and ensure the process is followed.
10. Can I ship a non-running or inoperable vehicle?
Yes. We handle non-running vehicles. Please include condition when requesting a quote: whether it starts, drives under its own power, needs winch loading, has any special loading requirements. That helps us ensure the right carrier/trailer.
11. What items can / cannot be left in the vehicle?
In general, we strongly recommend you remove personal belongings. Many carrier insurance policies do not cover personal items in the vehicle during transport. And extra weight or unsecured items can shift and cause damage. It’s best to transport personal items separately.
12. What’s the difference between shipping a vehicle and shipping freight?
Although both involve transportation, vehicle shipping has unique requirements: secure tie-down of rolling stock, driver handling, open vs enclosed trailer considerations, special loading/unloading at residential or commercial locations. Freight shipping (like pallets, crates, equipment) uses different equipment and rules (FTL, LTL, drayage). At BCAT we do both – but our vehicle shipping process is distinct and optimized for cars/motorcycles/trucks.
13. Are there any preparation steps I need to follow before pickup?
Yes! To ensure a smooth pickup and safe transport:
Clean vehicle so you can inspect the condition easily.
Document current condition: take photos of all sides, tires, interior, any existing damage.
Remove or secure any loose items in or on the vehicle.
Ensure vehicle is ready for loading (tire pressure OK, fluid levels acceptable, battery charged).
Provide keys to driver and ensure the driver has access to open/secured vehicle.
Provide safe & accessible pickup location (adequate space for truck/trailer).
Doing these steps prevents delays or disputes at delivery.
14. How do you handle real-time tracking and updates?
We use GPS tracking tools combined with manual driver check-ins to monitor your vehicle’s transit. You’ll receive updates on status, estimated delivery windows, and any issues. Transparency is part of our commitment.
15. Which geographic areas and routes do you serve?
We serve nationwide on vehicle shipping — coast-to-coast, cross-country, regional and state-to-state shipments. Because we own assets and work with a robust carrier network, we can cover flexible pickup/delivery. (If your route involves remote locations, please let us know so we quote appropriately.)
16. How soon can I get a quote?
Immediately. On our website quote form you can enter pickup and delivery ZIP/postcodes, vehicle type, service level (open/enclosed) and preferred dates. Within minutes you’ll get a ball-park rate and we’ll follow with details. We recommend booking as soon as your dates are firm.
17. What payment methods and terms do you accept?
We accept major credit cards, electronic payments and bank transfers. Final payment is due per your contract terms — typically at delivery or whatever milestone is agreed. We’ll provide the payment schedule and terms in your quote.
18. How do seasonal or high-demand periods affect the service?
Yes — during peak seasons (summer college moves, snowbird relocation, end-of-year holidays) demand rises. That means earlier pickup windows may fill, and pricing can increase. Booking early ensures better availability and potentially better rates. Adjusting pickup windows or flexibility will help if you ship in a high-demand period.
19. Can dealerships, auctions or commercial fleets use your vehicle shipping service?
Absolutely. While we service personal vehicle moves, we also handle commercial fleet transport, dealership inventory moves, motorcycle fleets, and specialty vehicle logistics. Reach out and we’ll tailor a plan for your business needs.
